In a fashion befitting the picture quality of IMAX, every grain of sand, every bit of burning car, and every polished square inch of their vehicles looks crisp. Evidently, they are racing through the jungle, and behind them, a less-than-fortunate automobile is propelled with explosive force into the air. In keeping with the primary conflict of the film, it shows the estranged brothers locked in combat, each one driving a decidedly cool car. F9 is set to drop a number of such bombs on the fanbase, including the return of presumed dead Han (Sung Kang) and the inclusion of an often-joked-about mission to space. Dom famously stresses that he would never turn his back on a member of his family, so the very existence of Jakob has grand implications for the character and the franchise. Jakob is a super-criminal in league with the family's old enemy, Cipher, and he's out to seek vengeance against his brother. The Fast & Furious films are chiefly about family, and F9 leans into that theme by introducing Jakob, played by John Cena, the estranged brother of Dom and Mia. Nevertheless, it's one of the most anticipated features of the upcoming summer. F9 was at one point supposed to release last year, but the pandemic pushed it back. F9 is the latest entry in the massively popular street racing action franchise centering around Dom (Vin Diesel), his sister Mia Toretto (Jordana Brewster), and their found family assembled over eight films.
